I choose to do a toning tutorial for the summer's Vent (which is available at Amazon.com etc etc...). Since it is difficult to post finished tones online due to the size the scanned ages end up being, I am posting a low resolution version of the finished image. Unlike a scan for printing where there is only black and white you can actually see the tone on the paper here.

The theme of the image is based around all the feral cats we have here in Japan. They are everywhere and they form little gangs that roam the streets looking for food. And they like to hiss for no reason. Come within, say, half a kilometer and the damned things will start hissing for no reason...

Anyway, I wanted to get a nice creepy image and cats here are creepy,... you get the point. The finished Vent piece will detail how I go about toning by hand a manga page, from tips on inking to how to go about choosing tone to use to pointers on layering.

This was drawn on B4 Kento paper, the Sekaido brand (because it is cheap), inked mostly with a Maru-pen, G-pen for the trees, and toned using mostly Deleter Tone. The stars are just white Gauche spattered on randomly with a paint brush.

Evil VENT pinup by ~Stekichikun really caught my attention while I was browsing. I love the expression on the character's face and her pose, surrounded by the gang of cats. Excellent work here, and be sure to take a look at the rest of the gallery. ( Featured by `AwsumZ )

aww! Would you mind if I reference off of this to make a drawing, but never post it? This is almost exactly what my character does and I would love to draw it! I've just never been able to draw so many cats in one picture...
