Today's art offering is another piece from long long ago. I was working mainly for Marvel and DC at the time I did this one but I found I wasn't really enjoying working in comics as much as I thought I would. I think it had to do with the fact I was drawing someone else's stories all the time and had little control over the overall look. I really wanted to do my own books and was starting to think about stories, trying to learn what was involved in writing and to help the creative process along I would draw up pictures of some of my favorite things. In this case, Japan + period piece art. I have several of these lying around and as soon as I find them all I will post them. Ummm... what else to say about this... I was back in America about 2 or 3 years when I drew this. Once again I was really trying to work out the manga influences in my art style, and like the last piece this really marks the high point for my efforts and results. After this period of time I got the sudden book at Tokyopop and quit ever really trying to be a hardcore American looking artist. Just draw what comes natural and the results will speak for themselves. Natural, that is the theme here. What I learned the most from this is that if you draw with an eye towards naturalism and ignore instinct for "realism" you will get fun results. More to come tomorrow.
